Polished Petrified Wood

My batch of petrified wood is finally finished I have some pictures but they don't do real justice to how nice they turned out. It has been too cold to go rock hunting but all this cold is killing off the vegetation so if we do get a heat wave we can easily get to our good spots. I can't wait till next year to test out our new rafts. We bought them on sale at the end of summer. They are heavy duty rafts too you can even put a trolling motor on them if you want to. They have a hard bottom and covered with a canvas material. Next year we will be hitting sandbars that we could never get to before. Hopefully we will come up with some real good stuff. But anyway here are some pictures of my polished petrified wood.

it's a twin

I have managed to find a few nice things the last couple times out one of them being a twin horn coral. Check out these pictures of my latest discoveries.

I think this coral looks like an alien skull lol.

I was told this one is a possible hide scraper used by Indians

finally made it to the river

Well the water was finally low enough to check the sandbars on the river. We had pretty good luck with honey agate and petrified wood but didn't find many fossils. I also found a couple bison bones. We managed to hit 5 sandbars wading the river. I found my biggest piece of honey agate I've ever found. I even found some smaller pieces that I think will make neat necklaces. I have been sorting through my rock collection to help hubby make his pond and waterfall look nice. I plan to put petrified wood on the sides of the waterfall. I have placed some slabs of different agates under the water falls and crystal geodes on the outer ledges. I will start taking pictures so you guys can see the progress. I haven't decided to part with my quartz crystals I was going to sell because I may need some for the waterfall. Its not the prettiest waterfall because hubby made it himself so I have to try and pretty it up. Well hopefully soon I will make it to the river again before the water starts getting too cold or we get more rain. I have pictures posted at my yahoo group of my finds (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/riverrockhounds/).

when will the rain end

I want to go rock hunting on the river if the rain ever quits long enough for the river to go down. I have decided to try next Sunday to float down and see if any sandbars are showing. For right now I have my polisher running polishing up some of last years finds. They should be ready in 2 more weeks. Now thanks to the smoking band I am in early retirement so I have all kinds of free time for rock hunting.

Morel mushrooms

Tomorrow me and my dad are going to the river to look for mushrooms. Rumor has it that they have started here so we are going to go take a peek. Should I not find any mushrooms yet I will keep my eyes open for some rocks. So wish me luck and I will keep you posted.
