Loch ness relatives discovered?

The bones of an ancient creature that would've looked like the Loch Ness Monster have turned up on an island in the Antarctic.
The fossil skeleton of the baby plesiosaur is one of the most complete of its type ever found and is thought to be the best-articulated fossil skeleton ever recovered from Antarctica. It was in an area covered in volcanic ash, leading researchers to speculate it might've been killed during an eruption
Plesiosaurs lived for millions of years in the southern ocean around Antarctica, which, back then, was warm. Adults could be more than 30 feet long, and the creatures had fins with which they could move through the water much the way penguins do.
The specimen was discovered to be the 5-foot-long skeleton of a long-necked plesiosaur, the foundation said. An adult plesiosaur could reach more than 32 feet in length. Most of the bones of the infant plesiosaur had not developed distinct ends due to the youth of the specimen, said James E. Martin, curator of vertebrate paleontology and coordinator of the paleontology program at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology's Museum of Geology.
He said the animal's stomach area was spectacularly preserved. Stomach ribs span the abdomen, and rather than being long, straight bones like those of most plesiosaurs, these are forked, sometimes into three prongs, he said.
Several small, rounded stomach stones are concentrated within the abdominal cavity, indicating stomach stones were ingested even by juvenile plesiosaurs to help maintain buoyancy or to aid digestion, the release said.
The skeleton is nearly perfectly articulated as it would have been in life, but the skull has eroded away from the body. Extreme weather at the excavation site on Vega Island off the Antarctic Peninsula and lack of field time prevented further exploration for the eroded skull.

New digital camera

Last night I finally broke down and went and got me a new digital camera. Now I can start doing some video coverage of our rock hunts. This will be so cool I can't wait for nice weather to come around again. I think I'm starting to get cabin fever already because I'm going crazy (haha). Meteor shower coming

The Leonid meteor shower is expected to produce a strong outburst this weekend for North America and Western Europe. Activity is expected to start around 11:45 pm ET Saturday in Europe. This correspondes to 4:45 GMT. People on the east coast where as people on the west coast may have trouble catching it. No special equipment needed just dress warm grab a chair and face the east and watch the show. Keep your eye open all weekend for peeks at the show. till next time.

Saddam Hussein Sentenced to Hang.

Finally the trials are over and Saddam Hussein has benn sentenced to death by hanging. This is to be carried out within thirty days. Enough said there later.

Saving for Diamond dig

I have decided I am going to save the money I make from eBay to put towards a trip to the Diamond Mine in Arkansas. I found out it's very inexpensive and we can even save more money by making it a camping trip. This is my plan for next summer I think even the kids will enjoy it. How many kids can say they went diamond hunting. Just imagine the stories if they get lucky and find some too. I have told hubby of my plans for next summer but I will wait to tell the kids. Don't want to get their hopes up and then not be able to go. So to raise the money I am selling different types of books on eBay under the username molimoney2006 check them out, sorry no rock,mineral, or fossil books on there. Bye all.

Another Diamond mine great find

For the record I told my husband that I wanted to vacation here to start my treasure hunting adventures. This was when I first decided to be a stay at home mom. The place "Crater of Diamonds" State Park in Arkansas. Well now someone else has made another great find there a 6.35 carat diamond. I have now decided that I am going to take all the extra money I'm making on eBay selling books and save for next summer. You can look at my books at molimoney2006 at ebay or you can see all that I will be selling this month on YouTube under the name molito66. Then maybe I will make enough that between my saved money and our usual allowance for vacation we might come up with enough to drive down and go diamond hunting. I would just love to find a diamond that I can say I found this diamond. Anyone can go and pay for a diamond I want to hunt one. I just think that would be so cool. Hubby jokes and says after the kids have grown he will move us down there so I can hunt them everyday. I'll be happy with a once a year vacation there I think. But anyway congrats to the couple from Texas on their great find. Bye for now all.
