Phase 2 done

Today I finished phase two on the honey agate collection. Me and the neighbor took some pictures (god I need a better camera).I'll post some of both our pictures and you'll see what I mean. We took some pictures after phase two to show you guys the difference already. My agate collection was the first set of pictures for this group I'm polishing. Now we just have phase three (1 week), phase 2 (1 week), and then the polish (1 week). Then that will probably be all I polish till spring, but hope to still get in some adventures this winter weather permitting. Don't know if I will get any hunting done this week cool weather. Bye till later.

Made it to sand caves

We did it guys me and the neighbor made it to the sand caves today. There's still a lot of weeds and brush in the way but we made it. I even got me a rock chisel at a garage sale a couple weeks ago waiting for this day. Unfortunately we didn't get to look for many rocks cause it started getting dark so we had to find our way back. But we also discovered another sand cave that was almost covered by man made junk. Why does man have to ruin natures beauty. I'm thinking of going back to that one and cleaning it up some if I can. It's much bigger and a lot closer to a road. But anyway we made it to the old sand cave I found a few rocks and we brought home some loess hills gray clay. Who knows we might be selling loess hills clay ashtrays on eBay. Hey one of a kind sand hills must create one of a kind clay right? But anyway watch the video at bottom of blog from you tube. Till next adventure bye all.

My garage sale rock

Went out garage sale hunting with my neighbor the other day,and all i brought home was this rock. Just kidding. Really though while me and the neighbor was out garage saling i told him wouldn't it be funny if i brought home rocks from garage sale just for hubby. Hubby thinks my rocks are just F---ing rocks(ha ha). But anyway we stop at this one garage sale and as i climb out of the car, there on the ground, a plain ordinary black rock. It was about the size of the palm of my hand. So I picked it up and brought it home for hubby. Now he has his own special rock and he can't get rid of it because I gave it to him as a present (hehe). Here's a picture of his special rock.

great white buffalo

I just couldn't resist this one guys. May he bring all of us good fortune and peace. This little white buffalo was born in late August, he is the third one born on the same farm in Wisconsin. May he live to a ripe old age and no one find his bones for a long time. Till next time happy rock hunting.

Agates on the river

Today we went hunting for rocks and bones on the Nishnabotna river before the rain come. I'm so glad we went I made some really good finds. I found lots of honey agate of course and I also found a couple of small pieces of Lake Superior agate. But my big find was a buffalo tooth that I found half buried in the sandbar. Further up on the sandbar I found some claws from a turtle.
We found a few other old bones and some not so old bones, and a few other types of rocks that I'm not sure what type yet being new at this. And we also found some nice pieces of petrified wood. My children being the mighty rock hunters they are (haha) managed to catch bullfrogs. My daughter though did take a break from playing in the water and catching frogs for a little while to look for rocks. I guess it's in our blood my mom and aunt also love to hunt rocks but theirs is more of if they see one they like somewhere they will stop and pick it up.
They really don't go out looking for them all the time. They used to have rock fever real bad but i'll save that for another story. Till next time happy rock hunting.

fall is coming

Well here it comes, the leaves falling to the ground, everything changing colors, and those nice days with chilly nights. Yes thats right fall is here. So now i get to go outside everyday and harvest my garden, clean leaves out of rock garden, start digging up and bringing in plants that wont suvive the cold winters. But this also means that all my little rock hiding places will be easier to access. So lets all get out there and find us some hidden treasures.

phase 1 done

Well step one of my rock polishing is done. I tried to take some pictures of them to post, but my computer decided to go a little haywire. If this goofy half brained computer managed to save them I will be surprised. If it did by some strange miracle I will post them after I'm done fighting with this computer. Phase two is going now and it will be two weeks before they are done. Hopefully i will get a chance to go rock hunting soon. I may just have to rely on rusty but trusty to make one more long journey to the river. So until next time good luck rock hunting every one.

sand caves outing

well i hate to inform all ya river rockhounds but my little adventure got detoured today by a train. yes once again mans great technologies has got in my way of good simple fun. i think that engineer knew i wanted to get across the tracks cause he just sat there and sat there. so finally tired of waiting me and the girls decided to walk back to lake. we did manage to find a small spring coming out of the side of hill that produced a few rocks even found a very small piece of agate. now heres the funny part of our adventure. the girls wanted to play at the playground for awhile at the lake. so i plopped myself down in that playground and started hunting through the rocks lol. and believe it or not i actually found some more honey agate and some petrified wood. i shall post some pictures and video hope it turns out.

the sand caves of loess hills

Here we go rockhounds tomorrow i will attempt to go to one of my first discoveries. While hiking trails one day my kids came across this little cave. It has a natural spring running through it. Its full of different rocks, agates, and clay. Hopefully all the rain lately hasn't made it too overgrown to get to the cave. But i do hope it has washed down some nice treasures. This place is also where i found my first peice of petrified wood. So wish me luck and i'll tell ya about it tomorrow.

crocodile hunter

my condolences go out to his wife terry and thier 2 children. steve irwin was a great attribute to the animal world. my children learned alot of stuff about animals by watching his shows. he taught people things in a fun way you just had to watch to see what would happen. its strange how a man who lived on the edge of danger would die in a freak accident. my prayers are with terry and her children.
